As you know, the Shrine of Saint Jude is served by the Carmelite Order. The Carmelites are also based in different parts of the United Kingdom serving the people of God. Donations received at the Shrine of Saint Jude has enabled the Carmelite’s to support the presence and ministries of the Order across the country and worldwide. Until very recently, the Order was also based in East Finchley in North London.

A friend of Saint Jude has recently sent the Shrine an article from the local newspaper ‘The Archer’ about some comforting and inspiring lyrics taken from songs of hope which have graced lampposts in the area during the virus lockdown.

In a time when we are all counting our blessings, perhaps the most perfect words are from the Bob Thiele and George David Weiss song made famous by Louis Armstrong: “I see trees of green, red roses too. I see them bloom, for me and you. And I think to myself, what a wonderful world.

Other lyrics added include the Bill Withers classic ‘Lean on Me’:

“Lean on me, when you’re not strong
And I’ll be your friend
I’ll help you carry on
For it won’t be long
‘Till I’m gonna need
Somebody to lean on.”

Or, how about Vera Lynn’s ‘The White Cliffs of Dover’?

There'll be bluebirds over
The white cliffs of Dover
Tomorrow, just you wait and see

I'll never forget the people I met
Braving those angry sky's
I remember well as the shadows fell
The light of hope in their eyes

And though I'm far away
I still can hear them say
Thump's up
For when the dawn comes up

There'll be bluebirds over
The white cliffs of Dover
Tomorrow, just you wait and see
There'll be love and laughter
And peace ever after
Tomorrow, when the world is free

The shepherd will tend his sheep
The valley will bloom again
And Jimmy will go to sleep
In his own little room again

There'll be bluebirds over
The white cliffs of Dover
Tomorrow, just you wait and see
The shepherd will tend his sheep
The valley will bloom again
And Jimmy will go to sleep
In his own little room again

There'll be bluebirds over
The white cliffs of Dover
Tomorrow, just you wait and you'll see

So many songs have helped us through these difficult times. I conclude this reflection with Romans 5:3-4 which says whatever happens God sees your struggle. He's not blind to it. He's there for you. Always.

Romans 5:3-4
And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing
that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance,
character; and character, hope.
The Lord your God is not blind to

If you are able to donate to our Apostolate and the work of the Carmelites, you can do that here. Thank you. Please remember us when you pray. May God, who is never outdone in generosity, through the intercession of Saint Jude, bless you for your kindness.

SAINT JUDE, PRAY FOR US.
