Footprints of Hope

…become part of the very fabric of the Shrine of Saint Jude and sponsor a brick today!

So much has happened in the world since Fr. Elias Lynch first founded the Shrine in 1955. After two years of a pandemic, concerns over global warming, and with the invasion of Ukraine, we are in times of uncertainty. HOWEVER - Saint Jude is always a friend to each of us and is the patron saint of hope. No other saint has the same appeal - Jude knew Jesus and he was one of his closest friends, and Jude is a friend of ours whenever we need it.

Many thousands of individuals have been involved with the Shrine of Saint Jude since its foundation: from friars and staff, past and present, to supporters of Saint Jude and the Carmelite Order, to the people of Faversham – all of whom have come here with an abundance of experiences, memories and hope. In recognition of everyone, we have created the Footprints of Hope: an exciting opportunity to preserve and echo the memories of those who have made Whitefriars, the Shrine and Faversham what it is today: a place for all, a place of hope.

As part of the Footprints of Hope project, you will have the opportunity to have a name engraved on a brick which will be set on a new path from the Whitefriars Contemplative Gardens to the Garden of Hope (opened in 2021).

Make your mark and remember your friends and loved ones. You can add your chosen name for just £30 per brick. People are limited to two lines of 16 characters per brick (32 characters) per brick. Please note it is not possible to request bricks to be together.

Your brick will be laid into our special path of hope as a lasting legacy, and your donation will support current and future projects for years to come.

One night I dreamed a dream.
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.

After the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.

This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it.
"Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
You'd walk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me."

He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you
Never, ever, during your trials and testings.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you."
