Today is the feast of Saint Carlo Acutis.
Saint Carlo was born in London on 3rd May 1991 to parents from wealthy Italian families. He was baptised at Our Lady of the Dolours on the Fulham Road. His paternal grandparents lived in London and were married at Westminster Cathedral. Shortly after his birth the family moved to Milan, Italy. As a young child he loved to pray the rosary and after making his first communion, went to mass every day, ‘dragging’ his relatives and parents with him. His ‘Mom’ had only been to mass on her First Communion, Confirmation and her wedding, and his love for the Eucharist inspired a deep conversion for her. At school he is remembered as being a friend to all, and to others, he is remembered for his love and concern for the poor. Very relatable to the young, he loved video games, films and sports. He was a gifted web site designer and became known as God’s Influencer. By documenting ‘Eucharistic Miracles of the World’, which has been displayed in five continents, he hoped that he could demonstrate the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist and reverse the trend of young people growing distant from the church. Age 15, on being diagnosed with untreatable leukaemia, he offered up his suffering saying, ‘I will suffer for the Lord, the Pope and the Church’. He died 12th October 2006.
Saint Carlo Acutis, pray for us. Saint Jude, pray for us.
